The Best Flea Pest Control Methods

Is there anything more irritating than fleas? These tiny insects multiply like crazy and feed on the blood of humans and animals. Flea bites are itchy and uncomfortable. If you've got fleas, your goal is definitely to get rid of them. There are quite a few flea pest control methods that you can utilize to get rid of these stubborn insects. Fleas most often occur in homes with pets. Therefore, the first step is to treat your pets. You will find a wide variety of flea shampoos, sprays, powders and collars made for animals. The hard part is choosing which product is best.

When it comes to dog and cat flea control and prevention, perhaps the most effective remedy are the treatments such as Frontline that can be purchased from your vet's office. You should go to the vet for these products because the products sold in stores are not usually as effective. It costs about $20 for a month's supply. The product is applied to your pet's neck once every thirty days. It then soaks into the skin and kills fleas, ticks, larvae and eggs. Of course, if your home is infested with fleas you will also need to treat it as well.

A flea bomb is a good choice for treating a home. The problem here is that these bombs and foggers are toxic. You, your family and pets will need to leave the home for hours while the product does its job. Of course, if you don't like using chemicals to repel fleas, there are some organic options. Some people swear by covering the floor with Borax powder and keeping it there for a few days, then vacuuming it away. This is a messy and inconvenient method, however. Another idea is to look for an organic pest control spray at your local pet store or home improvement store.

Flea pest control involves killing the fleas you have, and preventing new fleas from invading your home. If you've got pets, then flea control is an ongoing battle. Your vet can talk to you further about the various methods of pet flea eradication. If you don't want to go for the products that are applied to the neck, your vet or groomer may be able to give your dog or cat a flea dip or bath. There are also special flea combs that can help you pick the fleas off your pet.
